Man faces weapons charges

Friday, June 30, 2000 | 10:33 a.m.

A Boulder City man suspected in the mysterious disappearance of his wife last year was arraigned today in federal court on weapons and other charges.

David Kent Fitch, 41, was charged with two counts of possessing false identification, four counts of using a false passport, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon.

The charges stem from an investigation last year into the disappearance of 46-year-old Maria Bozi, who has not been seen since moving from England to Boulder City last July after marrying Fitch three months earlier.

Fitch has not been charged in connection with Bozi's disappearance, but he is a primary suspect, authorities say.

Bozi disappeared shortly after arriving in Boulder City, and authorities allege Fitch began to withdraw large amounts of money from her bank account at about the same time. He also began assuming different identities, according to court records, and in January traveled to England, where he married another woman.

Fitch was arrested Feb. 8 after being stopped for speeding in Henderson while driving Bozi's car. In subsequent searches, police discovered Fitch had bought chloroform 23 days after Bozi arrived in America. He also owned a collection of books on how to murder people and change identities, according to court records. Weapons were also found.

Fitch was indicted in February on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He remains in custody and a trial has been scheduled for July 10.
