Grand Am may be key to shooting

Friday, June 30, 2000 | 10:34 a.m.

Metro Police are searching for a red Pontiac Grand Am with tinted windows in connection with the slaying of a 27-year-old man found shot in the back seat of a van in the driveway of his Las Vegas home Thursday morning.

Residents from a home in the 2800 block of Searles Avenue, near Eastern Avenue, found the victim at about 12:10 a.m., police said.

The residents at the Searles Avenue home, who police say are related to the victim, told officers they heard someone, believed to be the driver of the van, kicking on the front door. When they came out of the house, they found the victim in the back seat of the vehicle.

Police have identified and interviewed the driver, and investigators were able to determine that the Grand Am pulled alongside the van, and a passenger fired three or four shots.

One bullet struck the victim in the top part of his body, and he later died at University Medical Center.

Police describe the passenger in the newer model Grand Am only as in his late teens to early 20s with a pony tail.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro's homicide unit at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
