Summer dance
Las Vegas Civic Ballet Association and the city of Las Vegas Leisure Services offer afternoon ballet, tap and jazz summer classes at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Pointers for intermediate and advanced students, beginning and intermediate ballet, beginning tap, and beginning and intermediate jazz are provided. Classes are $25 a month. Call 229-2321.
Park movies
Family Film Festival Thursdays begin this week at Jaycee Park with an 8 p.m. showing of "Stuart Little." The festival continues with "Harriet the Spy" July 13 and the animated version of "The King and I" on July 20. It ends with the animated version of "Tarzan" July 27. Admission is free. Call 229-6211.
Deadline today
Today is the deadline for applications for Community College of Southern Nevada's third annual Summer Jazz Combo Camp. Sessions are open to instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages and skill levels. Cost is $129. Call 651-4006.
Rap festival
Hallelujah's Youth Ministry presents its Soul Check Summer Rap Fest, featuring Christian music artist KJ-52, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Rancho/Gowan Business Park, 3630 N. Rancho Drive. Admission is free. Call 646-7332.
Art exhibits
An opening reception for "One Diva and Sixteen Dudes," a group exhibition curated by Annie Lee, will be 6-9 p.m. today at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Prints will be available for purchase. The exhibit continues through Aug. 28. Call 229-6074.
An opening reception for Las Vegas artist Jason Babcock, a painter to music, will be 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Art Encounter, 3979 Spring Mountain Road. The exhibit is ongoing. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Monday. Admission is free. Call 227-0220.

"Orchis Two," a sample of Sante Fe, N.M., artist Rita's "Organic Sculptures" series is on display at the Las Vegas Museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave, through July 7. Her series will be on display at the Community College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd., today and at the college's Henderson campus, 700 College Drive, Monday through July 14.
"Apron Strings: Ties to the Past," featuring nearly 100 vintage and contemporary aprons dating from the late 1800s, is on exhibit through Aug. 13 at the Clark County Museum, 1830 S. Boulder Highway. Interested choreographers have until July 21 to enter chorographic proposals for the "Holiday Collage 2000," Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center. The event features the Las Vegas Youth Ballet Company and is sponsored by the Las Vegas' Cultural and Community Affairs Division and the Las Vegas Civic Ballet Association.
