West Warwick wondering about other projects for casino land

Thursday, June 29, 2000 | 9:32 a.m.

The Narragansett Indian Tribe and its partner, Boyd Gaming Corporation, had secured purchase options on 158 acres in the West Warwick Business Park in anticipation of state legislators authorizing a referendum on the casino project.

But the General Assembly last week doomed the prospect of a November referendum on the casino, The Providence Journal reported.

The Indian tribe's purchase options had pushed other developers' plans for a Red Roof Inn and a truck dealership to the side. Now that the casino plan is dead for this year, West Warwick Town Planner Marc Jaffee said he is planning to contact both other groups to check on the status of their projects.

Most of the Indian tribe's land options are good until January.
