Shooting victim dies in van
Thursday, June 29, 2000 | 10:58 a.m.
A 27-year-old man died after he was found shot in the back seat of a van in the driveway of his Las Vegas home early this morning.
A caller told Metro Police that several shots were heard in the 2700 block of Jansen Avenue, near Eastern and Washington avenues, followed by the sound of a vehicle leaving the area.
Residents of a home in the 2800 block of Searles Avenue, about two blocks from where the shots were heard, called police about 12:10 a.m. reporting they found a man shot in the back seat of a van in their driveway.
The residents told police they heard someone kicking the front door of the home. When they answered, they found the 27-year-old man, a resident of the home and their relative, wounded in the van.
Police believe another person drove the van to the home and ran away after kicking the door.
The victim, whose name was not released this morning, was taken to University Medical Center, where he died from a gunshot wound in his chest, police said.
There were at least three bullet holes in the van, police said.
It was the 52nd homicide this year in Metro's jurisdiction, compared with 50 at the same time last year.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Metro's homicide unit at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
