Former health officer dies

CARSON CITY -- Dr. Edward J. Dehne, public health official, ring physician and an advocate of preventive medicine, has died at the age of 89 after an extended illness.
Dehne was a licensed ring physician with the Nevada State Athletic Commission and was the doctor at ringside for hundreds of amateur fights. He was ring doctor at the Sugar Ray Leonard-Bruce Finch fight in Reno in 1982 and at the Evander Holyfield-James "Quick" Tillis bout.
He died June 25 at a rest home in Carson City.
He is survived by his widow, Peggy; son, Sam Denis Dehne of Reno; daughter, Lanie Ann Donley; sister, Esther Kellar; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He will be cremated.
