Suspect arrested in convenience store killing

Beau E.Z. Brown of Reno was arrested for investigation of murder and armed robbery in Saturday's shooting death of Kuldip Bains, 63, owner of Bains Mini-Mart.

A customer found Bains laying on the floor of the store with a single gunshot shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The victim was dead when police arrived a short time later.

Police said the suspect returned to the store after the robbery attempt and officers found a handgun in his vehicle. Investigators later found other evidence linking the suspect to the crime.

Bains was married with two or three older sons, police said.

"I just can't believe something like this would happen in the middle of the day," said Charlene Sloan, who lives across from the store. "Mr. Bains was just a really nice guy."
