Calif. earthquake shakes Las Vegas
A 4.6-magnitude earthquake centered south of Baker, Calif., was felt in Southern Nevada this morning.
The 8:43 a.m. temblor was centered in Ludlow, about 35 miles southwest of Baker, according to the Caltech Seismological Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.
Residents throughout Southern Nevada reported feeling the quake.
The quake was an aftershock of the 1999 Hector Mines tremblor, officials said.
That Oct. 16, 1999, earthquake, centered near Joshua Tree, Calif., registered 7.1 on the Richter scale. That temblor awoke many Las Vegas residents and startled tourists as hotel-casinos and beds began rolling and shaking in the middle of the night.
There were no immediate reports of damage from today's quakes.
