Prominent gaming analyst announces he is gay
Thursday, June 22, 2000 | 11:03 a.m.
In a rare move on conservative Wall Street, Prudential Securities gaming analyst Joe Coccimiglio announced he was gay in an e-mail to clients this week.
In the e-mail, Coccimiglio said he was inspired to make the announcement after hearing Allan Gilmour, a Prudential board member and former vice chairman of Ford Motor Co., speak at a gay pride rally. The Coccimiglio e-mail was later reported in the New York Times.
Coccimiglio said he's been pleased with the feedback he's received from gaming industry officials since he sent the e-mail on Monday.
"The reaction has been very good from the gaming industry, so that's been nice," Coccimiglio said. "I've gotten very good feedback from clients and colleagues, and MBA students interested in the industry."
Coccimiglio said he'd already discussed his orientation with resort developer Steve Wynn last October, when Coccimiglio asked if he could bring along his partner with him during a flight with Wynn to Las Vegas.
"Steve couldn't have been more gracious," Coccimiglio said. "He was wonderful."
