Some 3 million people visited Las Vegas in April, up 8.3 percent from April 1999's 2.8 million visitors, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported today.
Visitors have been flocking to the gaming capital the past few years, drawn by new mega-resorts like the Bellagio, Venetian, Paris and Mandalay Bay. They're also visiting new off-Strip resorts at Lake Las Vegas and in Summerlin.
The LVCVA said April's increase in visitation was greater than the 7.2 percent increase in the city's hotel room inventory. The inventory stood at 120,875 rooms in April, up from 112,802 in the year-ago quarter.
On Tuesday, McCarran International Airport reported serving 3.089 million passengers in May, up 7.6 percent from May 1999.
Year-to-date Las Vegas air traffic is up 9.5 percent.
