Las Vegas area fishing report

LAKE MEAD: Boaters are finding good action for striped bass throughout the lake with the only downside being that the fish have generally been small.
Anglers competing in a Nevada Striper Club tournament over the weekend had fair results with the better areas being Boulder Beach, the Hemenway Wall and Pyramid Island. Most of the fish ranged from two to three pounds with the largest weighing just 4.3 pounds.
Drifting with anchovies or sardines is the method most boaters are using to catch stripers. The early morning hours have been the best time of day for fishing.
Las Vegas angler Jay Pennington said he and two other fishermen caught approximately 100 catfish while fishing in the Overton Arm on Saturday night. Wes Davis, who was fishing in the party, caught a catfish that weighed more than 20 pounds.
LAKE MOHAVE: Very few anglers have been seen fishing on the lake during the past week, possibly due to the slow action that has been found for striped bass.
About the only success that has taken place recently has been in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove heading into Davis Basin. Small stripers have been caught in that area by boaters who are baiting hooks with a combination of anchovies and squid.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is scheduled to stock rainbow trout at Willow Beach on Thursday.
EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Fishing remains good for stocked rainbow trout. Aquatic weeds are becoming a problem for shore anglers.
ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: The water level continues to drop and this is concentrating the fish. Fair success is now being found for rainbow trout, largemouth bass and crappie.
WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Typical summer fishing is being found in the area with angler success varying from day to day. There have been recent reports of fair action for rainbow trout for anglers who are on the water at Cold Springs Reservoir. Small largemouth bass are being caught at Adams-McGill Reservoir.
