City would provide services
The Henderson City Council approved an annexation report explaining the city's intention to provide services to a 5,500-acre parcel west of city limits.
The chunk of U.S. Bureau of Land Management and unincorporated Clark County land south of the Henderson Executive Airport is still mostly undeveloped but is the subject of intense developer interest.
The annexation report commits the city to providing the area with police and fire protection, street maintenance and garbage collection, and water, sewer and flood control services.
Henderson city officials expect to complete an annexation of the property this summer. A public hearing will held on July 11 followed by a 15-day protest period.
Expansion plans slowly unfolding
The proposed doubling of the Water Reclamation Facility in Henderson is proceeding slowly.
At the Tuesday meeting, the council both commissioned $67,000 for an independent review of the current plans for the plant expansion and approved $136,000 to reimburse Clark County for a requested addition to an erosion control structure project in the Las Vegas Wash that would create an outfall for a pending Water Reclamation Facility expansion.
Water price increase approved
Water rates in Henderson are going up by about 2.8 percent.
The hike approved by council members Tuesday night will mean an additional $21 per year in water and sewer costs for an average single-family homeowner using 22,000 gallons per month.
City officials blamed a number of recent events for the hike, including new infrastructure, increasing power costs and more stringent federal and state water quality standards.
Charges for residential customers will increase five cents per 1,000 gallons while the monthly set fee remains the same.
Sewer rates for single family homes and mobile home estates are increasing by 63 cents monthly while rates for multifamily housing and mobile home parks will be unaffected.
