Fitch to face weapons, passport charges

Wednesday, June 21, 2000 | 11:05 a.m.

A Boulder City man suspected in the disappearance of one of his wives has been indicted on additional charges, although none are related to the disappearance.

A federal grand jury Tuesday tacked on nine additional charges to a single charge David Kent Fitch already faces.

Although he has not been charged in the disappearance of Maria Bozi, 46, Fitch is the primary suspect in the case, authorities say.

According to court documents, Fitch and Bozi were married in April 1999 in England. Bozi followed Fitch to Southern Nevada three months later, but soon disappeared.

Police allege that within days of her disappearance, Fitch began withdrawing large sums of money from Bozi's bank account and began assuming different identities.

They also learned that in January Fitch traveled to England and married another England resident, Patricia Molano Gutierrez.

On Feb. 8, police stopped Fitch for speeding in Henderson while he was driving Bozi's car and subsequent searches revealed that Fitch had bought chloroform 23 days after Bozi arrived in America and that he owned a collection of books dealing with changing identities and how to murder people.

Authorities also found weapons in Fitch's possession, although as a convicted felon, he isn't allowed to own or possess firearms.

Fitch was indicted on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in February and has remained in custody since then.

On Tuesday, the grand jury indicted Fitch on two counts of possessing false identification, four counts of using a false passport, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon.

U.S. Magistrate Roger Hunt scheduled Fitch's arraignment on the charges for June 30.
