Summer education class to be held

Rabbi Sanford Akselrad will lead a free adult summer education class 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Congregation Ner Tamid, 2761 Emerson Ave.

Akselrad will discuss the new resolution on same gender officiation in the Reform Movement, and the movement's view of homosexuality. RSVP to the Temple Office, 733-6292.

Fourth anniversary party on Saturday

The WorldFolk Foundation will celebrate its fourth anniversary with a birthday party beginning 8 p.m. Saturday at the Enigma Garden Cafe, 918 S. Fourth St.

The program will include music, poetry and refreshments and is open to the public.

The WorldFolk Foundation is a grass-roots, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cultural diversity in Southern Nevada.

For the last four years WorldFolk has contributed to the cultural renaissance taking place in the valley by supporting, developing, and showcasing local musicians, poets and artists of all genres. For more information, call 220-6043.

Recreation department to sponsor workshop

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a fly-fishing workshop 9:30-3 p.m. Saturday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.

Participation is $95, which includes all supplies. Enrollment is open to those at least 9 years of age.

Participants will explore the art of fly-fishing in a workshop designed for the novice to the intermediate sportsman. The workshop is a combination of classroom lecture about the philosophy of fly-fishing, fly-fishing equipment, knots, entomology, casting clinic and fishing practice.

Workshop to be hosted by state, Henderson

The Nevada Division of Wildlife and the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor a hunter's safety and conservation workshop 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Satellite Center, 1661 Galleria Drive.

Registration is accepted through the Division of Wildlife. After registering, participants will be required to pick up their workbooks at the Whitney Ranch Satellite Center or at the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

The workbooks must be completed prior to attending the workshop. Call 486-5127 for more information.

Library to feature police information

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Metro Police will present Metro Day 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.

Metro Day events include demonstrations, exhibits and presentations from a variety of details, including Crime Prevention, Recruitment, CRAVE, Patrol and Traffic.
