86 students win scholarships

The Clark County Public Education Foundation awarded 86 high school graduates with more than $90,000 in scholarships at a luncheon June 12 at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay.

This year's recipients were selected from 572 applicants for 26 scholarship programs. The criteria ranged from academic or athletic success and those who overcame personal challenges or adversities to children of specific trade groups and graduates planning to pursue specified majors at the college level.

Also, Angela Latiolait of Cal State Northridge, received the Southern Nevada Floorcovering Association Excellence Through Education Scholarship (for present post-secondary students).

C.P. Squires Elementary School teacher Dan Rauternstrauch was honored with the Coca-Cola Always Teaching Award last week. This award is given to the teacher who best exemplifies positive lifestyle choices both inside and outside the classroom.
