Vegas man reappointed

Tuesday, June 20, 2000 | 11:58 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Augie Gurrola, a retired civil engineer from Las Vegas, was been appointed to a third term on the state Gaming Commission by Gov. Kenny Guinn.

Gurrola, 70, has served since 1992 on commission that regulates the casino industry in the state. The term is for four years.

The governor also named three gaming representatives to the long-dormant state Gaming Policy Committee, which hasn't met at least since 1984. They are Dan Wade of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Michonne Ascuaga of the Nugget in Sparks and Sean Higgins, legal counsel for Ett, a slot machine company based in Las Vegas.

The law says the policy committee must have two representatives from non-restricted licensees and one representative of a restricted licensee. Higgins also holds a license at a bar in Las Vegas.

The committee was created to consider broad policy questions affecting the industry. Other members include the governor, two members of the general public, one member each from the state gaming control board and the gaming commission, a representative of an Indian tribe and two legislators.
