Stars rainout forces twinbill today

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A nasty afternoon thunderstorm played a key role in the postponement of the Las Vegas Stars' game with the Tucson Sidewinders on Monday night at Tucson Electric Park.
The two teams will make the game up today at 6 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
Right-hander Rodrigo Lopez, who compiled a disappointing 0-3 record and an 8.76 ERA in six starts with the San Diego Padres, was sent back to Las Vegas to replace pitcher Brian Tollberg, who will start for the Padres against the Diamondbacks tonight.
Also, San Diego shortstop Chris Gomez is expected to undergo season-ending knee surgery this week. That means one of the three Las Vegas infielders -- Kevin Nicholson, Greg LaRocca or Ralph Milliard -- will likely be promoted.
