Help children experience summer camp
Tuesday, June 20, 2000 | 9:46 a.m.
Three local children living with their grandparents would like to someday put their past behind them.
They haven't seen their mother since they were small children. Their father has a series of problems, one of them being women who have come and gone in his life leaving the children, who have already lost their mother, with abandonment issues.
"All three have experienced a past far more shocking and sad than anyone I've ever encountered," wrote their teacher on an application for a Las Vegas Sun scholarship to summer camp. "Although their grandparents are doing the best they can, a camping experience can only help them feel more like a part of a community or family."
Contributions to the Sun Camp Fund provide scholarships so that children such as these siblings have an opportunity to experience life at summer camp.
