18 local projects draw special praise

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded 18 local projects with its Best Practices Award.
More than 2,900 projects nationwide were nominated for the awards, which specify that a particular project is a model for other communities to follow.
Local winners are Sunset Park, MASH Village Crisis Intervention Center, Aid for AIDS of Nevada, Salvation Army's Safe Haven, the Community Development Block Grant award process throughout Clark County, Cambridge Community Outreach Center and Henderson Allied Community Advocates.
Also winning were five Las Vegas Housing Authority programs, the Economic Opportunity Board's One Stop Shop for All Homeowners, Quail Ridge Manor, Madison Terrace Neighborhood Network Center, Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors and two state HUD office programs.
Local winners now compete for geographical and program category awards.
