"It's taking shape," board Chairwoman Jill Derby said.
Under the board's bylaws, a five-regent search committee must be appointed to select a successor.
Derby also must appoint an institutional advisory committee of five faculty members, three administrators, one classified employee, one undergraduate student, one graduate student and one alumnus.
Derby said she would like to finalize the committees by the next regents' meeting, which begins Thursday in Elko.
Crowley, who's stepping down as UNR president after 22 years, has offered to become a lobbyist for Nevada's higher education system at the 2001 Legislature.
His replacement is expected to take over the university's reins beginning July 1, 2001.
