Man walking his dog shot to death

Monday, June 19, 2000 | 11:32 a.m.

A man was shot to death this morning while walking his dog in a northeast Las Vegas neighborhood.

The man was in the 3100 block of Demetrius Avenue, near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Pecos Road, about midnight when he got into an argument with several people in front of a house, Lt. Wayne Petersen of Metro Police's homicide unit said.

The man, whose name was not released this morning, and the group of people were apparently arguing about the dog. Another man walking in the area saw the argument, then heard one shotgun blast and then another shotgun blast, Petersen said.

The man who saw the argument was struck in the back by some shotgun pellets and ran home to call police. He had only minor wounds.

Detectives interviewed two people who lived in the house near where the shooting took place and this morning were searching for others who lived in the house. No arrests were made in connection with the homicide .

The man's slaying was the 50th homicide so far this year in Metro's jurisdiction, compared with 46 at the same time last year.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro's homicide unit at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
