Three hurt in fight at Correctional Center
Sunday, June 18, 2000 | 3:17 a.m.
Prison spokesman Glen Whorton said the injuries occurred late Friday afternoon after two of the inmates became involved in a fist fight.
After ignoring officers' orders to stop the fight, a single round of birdshot was fired at the unit's floor and both inmates were struck by pellets.
A nearby inmate also was struck by a single pellet.
The inmate who allegedly started the fight was taken to Washoe Medical Center in Reno. He was expected to return to the prison after several pellets were removed from his head.
The other two inmates were treated at the prison infirmary and returned to cells there.
The inmates' names were not released. An investigation into the incident is under way.
