Silverton announces plans to expand to serve local customers

Friday, June 16, 2000 | 11:13 a.m.

The Silverton Hotel Casino on I-15 in the southern Las Vegas area will be expanded in a project that could cost in excess of $600 million, the company announced Thursday.

The first stage of the expansion of the 300-room property, which will cost $200 million, will begin sometime next year. Eventual plans call for the Silverton to have two casinos, 1,500 hotel rooms, movie theaters, retail and entertainment offerings, meeting space and a wedding chapel.

These expansion plans at the Blue Diamond Road property were recently approved by the Clark County Commission.

"The expansion is in response to the incredible growth projected in this area and therefore the need for more amenities," said Fran Inman, the Silverton's executive vice president of corporate development.

"Silverton attracts many locals and with some 47,000 housing units under construction in the Southwest area, we needed to expand to accommodate the influx of people."

The Silverton is owned by prominent Los Angeles developer Ed Roski Jr., owner of Majestic Realty Co. Roski is part owner of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings and the new Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The Silverton property sits on a 55-acre land parcel, called by the company one of the largest casino development sites available in the area.
