Letter: Social Security is for everybody; pass it along
Friday, June 16, 2000 | 9:30 a.m.
I'm receiving Social Security benefits, as are millions of others. Some are parents and grandparents, etc.
I'm thanking those of you who are contributing to the fund so that we may continue to draw the benefit.
We also paid into the fund so others could receive the benefit during their time of retirement. I paid into the fund for 42 years. In other words, I helped for 42 years.
With my generation, you heard very little complaining about helping others receive their Social Security as one hears today.
It is being made known that Social Security will only be solvent until 2050; don't buy this. Social Security is the most important political issue facing our elected officials. They're not going to let it die -- no way.
I have a strong feeling that someday, some in this generation will also say thank you, fellow Americans. Because of you I'm able to draw my Social Security benefits.
