Letter: Mayor praised for Yucca stance
Wednesday, June 14, 2000 | 10:16 a.m.
Each and every Nevada politician knows that Yucca Mountain is going to be used for storage of nuclear waste. Mayor Goodman isn't saying that he likes this reality, he's just saying it's a reality.
Few Nevada leaders have the guts to tell the truth concerning this issue, because of a fear of political persecution by a small handful of extreme left-wing environmental groups, Sen. Richard Bryan, and people pretending to be unbiased journalists.
I hope Mayor Goodman is prepared for the abuse he is about to receive. He will most certainly be forced to "clarify" his comments and back down.
Nevadans will be the losers as this $50 billion project moves forward and we derive no economic benefits, such as tax reductions and high-paying jobs, and do nothing to develop sophisticated emergency management programs to protect the public health.
