Talks again fail with LV concrete companies
Tuesday, June 13, 2000 | 11:10 a.m.
Labor negotiations resumed Monday between two big Las Vegas concrete ready mix producers and locked out Teamsters Union truck drivers, but ended without a resolution.
Talks with federal mediator LaVonne Ritter will reconvene Thursday, said Jim Wilkerson, a Teamsters spokesman.
CSR and Nevada Ready Mix Corp. locked out some 400 Teamster truck drivers after the union and the companies failed to agree on a new contract before the existing one expired on May 31. The companies want to cut wages in order to compete with non-union firms.
"The union called the federal mediator to get back to the table," said Ray Brown, spokesman for the two companies. "We're getting to the point when the drivers' last paycheck was last week and they are beginning to face real economic constraints."
