Nevada regulators loosen rules
Tuesday, June 13, 2000 | 11:10 a.m.
The Transportation Services Authority of Nevada adopted new regulations for the towing industry.
The biggest modification is adding a "good Samaritan" clause that allows tow truck drivers to offer unsolicited service to disabled motorists.
Under current regulations, drivers are prohibited from driving streets or highways or through parking lots searching for the opportunity to tow vehicles.
The old state statute says service must be specifically requested and a tow truck dispatched on each occasion.
The new clause allowing trucks to tow vehicles they encounter by chance requires disabled motorists to sign statements saying they did not already call another tow truck to the scene.
