Representatives of the companies, unveiling a scale model of the $1 billion project, said they are making it bigger than originally planned, too. The Borgata, most recently described as a 25-story tower with 1,207 guest rooms, is now going to be a 40-story, 2,010-room casino hotel, Boyd Gaming CEO Robert Boughner said.
The Borgata was to be a joint venture of Mirage Resorts Inc. and Boyd Gaming. MGM, which bought Mirage Resorts Inc. last month, remains committed to its share of the deal, CEO John Redmond said Monday.
"A billion dollars? Ah, that's OK to start," said state Sen. William Gormley, R-Atlantic, who attended unveiling ceremonies for the model Monday at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
