The plane was en route from San Francisco to Philadelphia when it landed at 7:30 a.m. at Reno-Tahoe International Airport, KOLO-TV reported.
Airline officials arranged for another US Airways plane to take the passengers to Philadelphia, but Flight 70 didn't take off until nearly six hours later, KOLO said.
An investigation into the cause of the landing is under way.
Reno is located 220 miles east of San Francisco.
