NCCJ will host free conference

The Stop Hate Crime Conference is being sponsored by the National Conference for Community and Justice 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday at the County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Representatives from law enforcement, economic development, government, educational, faith, news media and social justice organizations will be present.

Special guest speakers include Tracey St. Pierre, Human Rights Campaign, Washington, D.C.; James Weinstein, professor of constitutional law, Arizona State University; and Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa.

The program is free, but reservations are required. Call 387-6225.

Driving workshop set for seniors

The American Association of Retired Persons and the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department are co-sponsoring a 55 Alive driving workshop 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway.

The two-part workshop is open to mature drivers (ages 50 or more) for $10 per person, payable to AARP at class. Participants need not be members of AARP to attend. Call 435-3814.

Tortoise talk

The Tortoise Group will host a talk on a day in the life of a tortoise 1 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada State Museum in Lorenzi Park. For more information, call 739-8043.
