Harrah's plans political surveys
Harrah's Entertainment in Las Vegas will create a political survey operation.
Jan Laverty Jones, communications director at Harrah's and the former mayor of Las Vegas, said the operation will be the best way to gauge the public's perception of local political and business issues.
Jones said the surveying will for the most part be an "in-house operation," although it may contract with an out-of-house pollster.
Democrat workshop
The Women's Democratic Club of Clark County will hold a workshop for Democratic candidates Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Lawry's restaurant, 4034 Howard Hughes Parkway.
The cost is $20, which includes lunch. Democratic Party officials will speak.

Election tour
The Nevada Republican Network will host a tour of the Clark County Election Department at 7 p.m. on June 26. The election department is at the County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Suite 1113.
Participants will get a full briefing on the election process, an explanation of how the electronic voting machines work, and a tour of the facility. RSVP to 340-3673.
Republican picnic
Clark County Republicans will hold a picnic at Sunset Park, area A and B, from 4 to 8 p.m. on June 16.
Advance food and drink coupons are available. A $10 coupon will be worth 25 tickets at the park. The event will feature softball with the candidates.

It's fiesta time
A "Hispanic fiesta" celebrating the congressional candidacy of state Sen. Jon Porter, R-Henderson, will be held at 3361 Shadow Bluff Lane from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 17.
The event will feature a mariachi band, flamenco guitar performances, and ballet folcloreco.
