Officials checking to see if man can serve time under house arrest

Friday, June 9, 2000 | 3:25 a.m.

Julie Moorehead, a former office manager for the Regional Planning Commission, was sentenced to prison in October for embezzling building department funds.

She was ordered to pay White Pine County $107,681 restitution.

Moorehead is serving her 45-month sentence at the Silver Springs Conservation Camp near Carson City. She's required to serve a minimum of 18 months to be eligible for parole.

The Nevada Department of Prisons approved Moorehead's application for house arrest in early April, sending her name to Adult Parole and Probation for investigation.

If approved by Adult Parole and Probation, Moorehead would return to White Pine County under the program entitled House Arrest for Inmates Convicted of Offenses other than DUI.

To qualify, persons must have obtained full-time employment or have enrolled full-time in school or a rehabilitation program. They also must make restitution for their crime.

Program participants are required to wear an electronic bracelet that is part of a monitoring system. They also receive a number of monthly visits from a probation officer - both at home and work.
