Attorneys for the estate of Ted Binion want to know who paid for Sandy Murphy's defense at her murder trial.
Murphy and Rick Tabish, a Montana contractor, were convicted of first-degree murder in Binion's 1998 death.
Murphy's attorney, John Momot, said he was served with a subpoena last week from Binion's estate seeking financial records in an attempt to find who paid for Murphy's legal fees.
Momot said today he has until June 30 to release the records, according to the subpoena.
"It's a civil matter, and we are currently doing the research to see if it's appropriate," Momot said. "They are looking for illegal proceeds, obviously."
Momot said attorney Bill Terry, who also worked on the defense, received a subpoena as well.
Binion estate attorney Bruce Judd could not be reached for comment.
