A District Court judge has increased the bail for a Las Vegas woman charged in the death of a tourist who was struck by a car along with five other pedestrians in front of the Aladdin hotel-casino.
District Judge Mark Gibbons increased Juanita Kim McDonald's bail from $100,000 to $1 million following a hearing Wednesday. Deputy District Attorney Bruce Nelson had argued for a $1.5 million bail, saying McDonald poses a flight risk. According to police, McDonald, 24, drove onto the sidewalk in front of the Aladdin on April 19 and hit six pedestrians with her car.
Mike Wienkes, 36, of Mineral Point, Wis., died May 7.
Nelson said blood tests revealed McDonald had methamphetamine, Ecstasy and marijuana in her system.
