Supreme Court denies stay in bridge construction

The Nevada Supreme Court has turned aside a request to delay construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Las Vegas Strip connecting the Venetian resort with the Mirage hotel-casino.
The stay was requested by the owners of the Rosewood Grille Restaurant, which is surrounded on three sides by the Venetian complex. The restaurant has been battling the proposed bridge in court, arguing it would hurt business by blocking its famous sign from view on the Strip.
A state judge previously ruled that the bridge construction could proceed, forcing the restaurant to appeal to the Supreme Court. The restaurant had requested a stay in construction until the appeal could be heard and ruled on.
Clark County had originally planned to build the bridge with public funds at the intersection of the Strip and Spring Mountain Road. However, the Clark County Planning Commission approved plans to move the bridge 900 feet south after the two resorts offered to build the bridge at their expense if it would connect their hotels.
