The grant is funded through a Department of Education program known as Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology and will help the university's education school to broadly ingrain technology into its courses, according to education school Dean William Sparkman.
UNR is among 110 colleges and universities in the United States to be awarded the federal grant, which is doled out over three years.
The UNR funds, which will amount to about 320-thousand dollars a year, should affect about 1,000 education students.
The school's "technology consortium" includes the Washoe County School District, Truckee Meadows Community College, the Northeast Nevada Technology Consortium, Nevada Bell and KNPB-TV.
Sparkman said grant funds also will be used to provide incentives for faculty members to include computers and technology curriculum in their courses.
