Letter: Lazy parents must be more responsible

Monday, June 5, 2000 | 8:29 a.m.

Parents: Do not take such chances with your children! They are not toys or old clothes that you leave out for someone to take at will. It is an absolute shame that our priorities are so out of order these days. You are the parent. You brought the child into the world. It is your responsibility to watch out for your child. If you care more about having more stuff and bigger toys than the child, who needs you for more reasons than I can count, you need to review your life and realize that your children are the most important part of your responsibilities. Not your job! You can get another job, but once your child is gone, your child is gone.

To drop your child off or let them walk to school 30 to 40 minutes early, so they can play at the park before going to school, is just lazy parenting. You may as well take your child to the kidnapper's house and leave him or her there. It would save the kidnapper the trouble of walking to the park to take your child (which could easily be done), and I am sure you would make it to work on time.

Be careful with your children. They love you and need you more than you know. Look into their eyes and you will see that you have thrown them out into a scary world and you are only there for them when work is done with you.
