Fires restricted at Lake Mead

Lake Mead visitors who want to light up should be aware of new smoking and fire restrictions on the eastern shores.
The new restrictions for the Shivwits Plateau area on the Arizona side of Lake Mead were implemented by fire management officials on May 26 because of dry weather.
Campfires and smoking are limited to developed campgrounds and recreation sites. Smoking is permitted in vehicles, buildings and areas of at least 3 feet in diameter that are barren.
So far this season, no special fire restrictions have been assigned to the Nevada side of Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, or Toiyabe National Forest, but future restrictions are possible, the National Park Service said.
