Several workshops planned this month
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring several workshops.
A three-part bonsai workshop will be offered 2-4 p.m. June 10, 17 and 24 at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Participation is $15. For more information, call 565-2121.
An introductory scrapbooking workshop is being hosted 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Kesterson center. Cost is $15 per person, which includes research materials, handouts and instruction. Advanced registration is recommended. Call 565-2121.
A floral wedding design workshop will be offered 9:30 a.m.-noon Thursday at the Whitney Ranch Satellite Center near Thurman White Middle School, 1665 Galleria Drive. Cost is $20 per person and includes all necessary supplies and a floral wedding checklist. Call 450-5885.
A "Women and Investing" financial workshop will be offered 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Whitney Ranch center. Cost is $12 per person. Advanced registration is recommended as space may be limited. Call 450-5885.
A shadow puppetry workshop will be offered noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Whitney Ranch. Call 450-5885.
Children can learn about desert animals
Here are some of the programs coming up at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area:
Frogs and Toads: Children's program Saturday features Ranger Kate introducing some important desert creatures, the frogs and toads. There will be a short hike involved, so come prepared and meet at the Visitor's Center.
White Rock Loop Hike: A moderately strenuous 6-mile loop trail Wednesday past Willow and White Rock Springs. The route will climb more than 1,040 feet in elevation. Bring a lunch and at least three quarts of water.
Exploring Behind Sandstone Quarry: A 2-mile moderate hike Saturday north of Sandstone Quarry to discuss the changing desert ecology and look for wildlife.

Hike for women set at Red Rock
The Jewish Community Center is offering an interpretative hike for women age 14 and older Sunday at Red Rock Canyon to revisit the connection between Judaism and nature.
The 4-mile moderately difficult hike will explore Dale's Trail. Cost if $5. Call Gail at 896-8116 or 295-3880.
Builders association plans annual event
The Southern Nevada Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors will hold its second annual Construction Equipment and Safety Fair 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
There is no charge.
It will feature scores of vendor promotional displays, a huge array of door prizes raffled on the half hour, industry technology demonstrations and ample refreshments.

Class will cover many important areas
A baby-sitting training class is being offered 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday at the Family to Family Connection Center, 2570 E. Tropicana Ave. No. 14.
