City asked to annex 2 parcels, increasing limits by 223 acres

Monday, June 5, 2000 | 10:56 a.m.

The city of North Las Vegas is looking to grow by 223 acres.

At Wednesday's meeting the City Council will vote whether to accept two petitions for annexation and, if approved, will introduce two ordinances that will extend the city limits.

The city has received petitions by a group of investors including Union Pacific Railroad, Missouri Improvement Company and Lambchange Limited asking to annex 203 acres into the city. The land is located just east of Lamb Boulevard and north of Interstate 15.

The group represents 100 percent of the area proposed for annexation. The city cannot annex land if it receives protests from property owners who hold more than 50 percent of the total acreage.

Bertram Bauer has also requested that his 20-acre parcel at the northwest corner of Bruce Street and Washburn Road be annexed. According to staff reports, Bauer wishes to annex into the city in order to file a tentative map for a residential subdivision.

The annexation means the city would provide police, fire, street, water and sewer services. Street paving, curbs and gutters, sidewalks and streetlights will also be installed.

The last time the city annexed land was in June 1998, when against resident protests it annexed an island of Clark County land surrounded by North Las Vegas land. It was the third such annexation in three months.
