Malpractice charge still follows Vegas physician

Sunday, June 4, 2000 | 8:41 a.m.

The court also tossed out litigation Bass had filed in a move to win a dismissal of another medical malpractice charge that the state Board of Medical Examiners had brought against him.

The 6-0 decision released Friday means Bass has been found guilty by the medical board in two separate medical malpractice cases that ended with the deaths of his patients.

The decision means Bass must accept the punishment handed him earlier by the medical board. The board revoked his medical license but allowed him to continue practicing under terms of a three-year probationary sentence.

Justice Myron Leavitt, who dismissed one of the malpractice charges against Bass as a Clark County district judge, did not participate in the high court's decision.

In its decision, the Supreme Court ruled that it defers to Board of Medical Examiners' decisions in cases against physicians.

"Sufficient evidence was submitted to the board that supports its finding that Bass committed gross negligence," the court ruled.
