Dozens of South Carolina video gambling operations already have closed

Hugh Munn, spokesman for the State Law Enforcement Division, said the agency has checked 4,890 video gambling machines at 1,189 locations since Thursday.
Agents found 133 businesses had closed. Owners had removed 685 machines and turned off another 244, Munn said.
Munn said agents issued 27 citations - 23 for failure to display a license, two for failure to display an owner identification number and one each for leaving a location unattended and failure to display a required disclaimer.
Video gambling machines will become illegal on July 1. Thousands of video gambling licenses expired May 31, and many operators chose not to renew their licenses for such a short period.
