BLM plans second auction under 1998 land-sale act

The Bureau of Land Management is preparing to put 360 acres of the Las Vegas Valley on the auction block June 8-9.
The public auction is the second auction to sell off part of the 27,000 acres authorized by the 1998 Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act. The bureau is scheduled to hold two auctions a year until all of the land is sold.
Under the act, sale proceeds go back to the state, mostly for the purchase of environmentally sensitive land.
The BLM is selling the 360 acres in 93 lots. Parcels for sale at this month's auction are scattered throughout the Las Vegas Valley and range in size from 1.25 acres to 42.5 acres.
Seventy of the parcels are 2.5 acres or smaller.
Appraised value for all 93 parcels is $35 million. The first auction, in November, sold 105 acres for $9.4 million.
Several parcels that failed to sell in the November auction will be offered for sale again this month.
The oral auction will take place at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, beginning at 9 a.m. both days. The bureau will take sealed bids for the properties if received at the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, 4765 Vegas Drive, no later than June 6.
A complete list of land for sale is available at the BLM field office. For more information, call 647-5114, or check Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act -- Land Sale Information at the bureau's website (www.nv.blm.gov).
