Check out summer activities at mall
Las Vegas Councilman Lawrence Weekly is hosting the Summer Youth Fair 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday in the Sears Court at the Meadows mall.
Local organizations will be on hand to offer the latest in recreational and cultural summer programs for children. They include the city of Las Vegas Leisure Services Department, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas, the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and the North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department.
Summer programs are available for children 6 years of age and up.

Donations sought for Shade Tree
Donations of new or unused household or personal hygiene items for the Shade Tree, a 24-hour women and children's crisis shelter, are being accepted at JuneFest 8, the classic rock music festival to be held June 3 at Silver Bowl Park.
Anyone who donates needed items such as CAT bus tokens, paper cups and bowls, plastic spoons, or other useful goods will receive a coupon worth $3 off each JuneFest ticket, up to four tickets.
Donations can be dropped off at Cox Communications, 121 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., or KKLZ, 1455 South Tropicana Ave., Suite 800, by June 1, or on June 3 at the JuneFest 8 admission gate.
Zoo offers youth program
Young adults ages 14 through 20 who are interested in veterinary medicine or animal care can join the new Exploring program set to begin 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Southern Nevada Zoological Botanical Park, 1775 N. Rancho Drive.
Dara Hall, zoo curator, will give a tour of the facility and explain how participants can be involved with the training of exotic mammals, birds and reptiles, and learn about animal husbandry, veterinary care, habitat maintenance and behavioral enrichment. Call Hall at 647-4685.
Annual convention planned this week
Scrappin' Safari III Scrapbook Convention will host its annual convention on the new trend in creative scrapbooks Thursday through Saturday in Henderson.
Activities begin 5 p.m. Thursday at the Reserve hotel-casino with a "Cowboy Cropping Party." The show opens noon-5 p.m. Friday at the Henderson Convention Center, and the evening will conclude with the "Fabulous Fifties Crop" at 6:30 p.m.
And finally the show will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and conclude with an all night "PJ Crop The Night Away Party" at 6:30 p.m.
