Three casinos proposed in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. -- One company seeking Louisiana's last riverboat casino license wants to bring a gambling boat to an area without one. Two other applicants want to attract more Texans -- one with a brand-new gambling resort, the other with a major expansion of its existing complex.
Those were the ideas given last week to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, which will choose the winner of the state's 15th and often-maligned riverboat license.
A winner will be selected after license background checks of the applicants.
The groups seeking the license include Louisiana Horizons LLC, a group of four Louisiana investors brought together by former Gov. Dave Treen, which proposes a $45 million riverboat project in St. Mary Parish. Its minority investor is Isle of Capri.
Pinnacle Entertainment wants to build a $220 million resort complex in Lake Charles.
And Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corp., which is pushing for a second boat, along with a major expansion totaling $170 million, of its Bossier City hotel-gambling site.
