Gladys L. Downer

Gladys L. Downer, 93, of Las Vegas died July 24 in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 11, 1906, in Michigan. A resident for 12 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Mariann Tindall, and one son, Clyde Downer, both of Las Vegas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Green Valley United Methodist Church, 2200 Robindale Road, Henderson. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Catherine Barbara Howard

Catherine Barbara Howard, 88, of Las Vegas died July 19 in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 21, 1911, in Chicago. A resident for 30 years, she was a senior chaplain for Hope Chaplaincy for more than 20 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Prior of Honolulu and Sharon Peterson of Kamuela, Hawaii; two brothers, Earl Urhausen of Torrance, Calif., and Roy Hausen of New Jersey; two sisters, Julie Quiggle of Reno and Dorothy Langer of Morton Grove, Ill.

The family suggested casual attire be worn to the 11 a.m. service today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial followed in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Paul E. Levitt

Paul E. Levitt, 83, of Henderson died Thursday in Henderson. He was born May 3, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired grocery store owner-operator and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hess and Paula Sartin, both of Houston; two sons, Robert Levitt of DeSoto, Kan., and William Levitt of Cincinnati; one sister, Dorothy Mayers of San Francisco; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Chapel, Eastern.

The family suggests donations to the American Heart Association, 6370 W. Flamingo Road, Suite 1, Las Vegas, NV 89103.

Janie Frances Longberry

Janie Frances Longberry, 83, of Henderson died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Nashville, Tenn. A resident for 13 years, she was a food demonstrator.

Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling private arrangements.

Ferdinand Stephen Lychock

Ferdinand Stephen Lychock, 81, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Beaver Meadow, Pa. A resident for seven years, he was a retired refractory salesman, a decorated World War II Army veteran, a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by one son, F.P. "Buz" Lychock of Las Vegas; two sisters, Ann Forish of McAdoo, Pa., Mary Eisenhart of West Hazelton, Pa.; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Guardian Angel Cathedral, 302 Cathedral Way. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 28369, Las Vegas, NV 89126.

Frances D. Maksim

Frances D. Maksim, 86, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. She was born June 22, 1914, in Sharon, Pa. A resident for 34 years, she was a retired registered nurse.

She is survived by two daughters, Martha Heimerdinger and Mary Collins, and one son, James Maksim, all of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Christopher Anthony Rasmer

Christopher Anthony Rasmer, 36, of North Las Vegas died Monday in North Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 24, 1963, in Sumter, S.C. A resident for five years, he was a systems administrator and a Gulf War Army veteran.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Rasmer of Daytona Beach, Fla.; his father, Raymond Rasmer, and one sister, Tracey Rasmer, both of Dayton, Ohio.

A memorial service was noon today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Bessie N. "Bess" Sanford

Bessie N. "Bess" Sanford, 84, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born July 6, 1916, in El Paso, Texas. A resident for 44 years, she was a jeweler.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Miranda Parker of Las Vegas; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Michael E. Simmons Sr.

Michael E. Simmons Sr., 53, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a Los Angeles medical center. He was born Nov. 19, 1946, in Memphis, Tenn. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired Air Force tech sergeant and Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; one son, Michael E. Simmons Jr. of Federal Way, Wash.; two sisters, Clara Driver and Sybil Pinegar, both of Olive Branch, Miss.; and three brothers, Lawrence Simmons of Olive Branch, Clifford Simmons of Cordova, Tenn., and James Karras of Walls, Miss.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Jimolee Summerhill

Jimolee Summerhill, 76, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark. A resident for 44 years, she was a retired bookkeeper at an Air Force base, a member of Eastern Star Park Chapter and the White Shrine.

She is survived by her husband, M. Buddy; one daughter, Judy Witt of Las Vegas; one son, Kelley Summerhill of Boulder City; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. services today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services followed in Palm Memorial Park.

The family suggests donations to First Southern Baptist Church, 700 E. St. Louis Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89104.

Dennis Owen Vargas

Dennis Owen Vargas, 45, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 12, 1955, in Belize. A resident for one year, he was an oil company truck driver.

He is survived by one daughter, Deveney Vargas of Corona, Calif.; two sons, Sammy Vargas of East Los Angeles and Dennis Vargas Jr. of Los Angeles; his mother, Jean Andrewin of Los Angeles; his father, Hector Vargas of Belize; one sister, Sarita Vargas of Pollock Pines, Calif.; and two brothers, Rudy Vargas and Hector Vargas Jr., both of Fontana, Calif.
