March 5:Is Red Leader Already Dead?
Story: With medical reports on the condition of Josef Stalin running far behind actual events, speculation here was, "Is he dead?" Informed sources were speculating that the absolute ruler of 800 million people may already be out of the picture, and top Soviet leaders were withholding the news until an expected crisis over Stalin's successor was passed (it was announced a day later that Stalin had died of a brain hemorrhage).
April 17: Henderson Becomes A City As Election Board Named
Story: Henderson grew up from a town to a city yesterday after District Court Judge A.S. Henderson officially proclaimed it a city of the second class and appointed a five-man commission to set up an election. Named to the commission were John Heher, George Rothery, Ford Gilbert, Ed Bunke and Robeert Stephenson. They will work out the polling place between now and election time.
April 25: Another Whackeroo A-Blast Set Off Today
Story: Firing time today for the seventh nuclear test in the spring series was tentatively scheduled for 4:22 a.m. If atmospheric conditions are right, Las Vegas residents will probably sleep right through it. If conditions aren't right, merchants had better hope that their stores are well-ventilated, or else their plate-glass windows will end up on the street. A total of 2,400 Army troops will conduct the maneuver, with 16 members of Congress on hand as observers.
Nov. 12: Wildcats Finish Undefeated With 34-0 Win Over Reno

A crowd of 7,200 jammed the stands and spread into the end zones to set a new state attendance record for a high-school football game, outdrawing all of the University of Nevada games, to watch coach Angelo Collis' team.
