Judge dismisses South Carolina gambling suit

U.S. District Judge Henry Herlong dismissed Select Electronic Devices' suit on the basis that federal law did not supersede the state's ban on illegal machines.

"This is another victory in the effort to run video gambling completely out of South Carolina for good," said Attorney General Charlie Condon.

A state ban went into effect July 1. Machine owners had seven days after that to get rid of their machines.

Select Electronic Devices sued, arguing that its business was protected under federal law because it sold the machines to states where they are legal.
