Nevada Summer Institute event begins

Businesspeople will be the instructors and teachers the students for the third annual Nevada Summer Institute event being hosted through Monday at the Community College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. Sponsored by the state School-To-Careers Council, more than 300 professionals will attend the event, whose theme is "Business plus Education plus Community equal Learning That Works."

Business people and educators interested in attending the free institute should contact CCSN staff at 651-7359. Both university credit and teacher recertification credit can be earned by eligible participants.

Stained glass workshops set

The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting beginners' stained glass workshops from 4-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; and from 9:30 a.m.-noon Aug. 8 at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. Participation in either workshop is $20.

The instructor will teach participants how to create stained glass window panels. Demonstrations include pattern making, cutting glass into different shapes, various copper foiling techniques, and soldering. The instructor will furnish participants with the use of essential equipment including glasscutters and sanding tools. For more information, call 435-3814 or 565-2121.

Hikes and walks offered
