Letter: Let ravers enjoy themselves in their own way
Tuesday, July 25, 2000 | 10:01 a.m.
Raves are not all about "rolling on ecstasy" and doing other drugs, although "Dateline" and other nightly news shows seem to want everyone to believe that.
They are not evil breeding grounds where kids go to do drugs and force sales on young kids or create problems. Everyone at raves is there to have a good time, whether on drugs or not. It's their choice.
Also, ecstasy isn't the terrible drug these news shows make it out to be. If you notice, there are few if any violent crimes or fights that break out at raves. We just want to dance and see our friends. Would the public rather us be out breaking into cars and doing other crimes to give us something to do in this virtually all-adult entertainment town?
As with any drug OR alcohol, when abused it can lead to trouble. Don't blame the drug because some stupid kid drove home on "E." Adults do something similar -- it's called drunken driving. Abuse is the problem. We don't want to hear it anymore. Please let us enjoy ourselves while we aren't hurting anyone.
